Trace Element Evidence of Subduction-Modified Mantle Material in South Mid-Atlantic Ridge 18–21°S Upper Mantle

چکیده
Mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORBs), produced at mid-ocean where the continents and subduction zones are distant, product of partial melting upper mantle their chemical composition can provide information about itself. The geochemical characteristics MORBs enable us to be more informed geological processes below ridge, assist in understanding heterogeneity geodynamic processes. In this paper, new data major elements, trace Nd-Hf isotopes south mid-Atlantic (SMAR) 18–21°S presented. TAS diagram shows that samples belong subalkaline basalt compositional field. Trace elements (e.g., (La/Sm)N = 0.49–0.79) show N-MORBs. However, primitive mantle-normalized element patterns showed studied were clearly enriched Rb, U, Pb, other fluid-mobile elements. Meanwhile, ratios, such as Nb/U Ce/Pb, also significantly different from typical N-MORB. Combined with isotopic composition, we propose these anomalies not related continental crust material, delaminated subcontinental lithospheric (SCLM), recycled sediments, direct supply plume, nor they result directly affecting source, but caused by incorporation material modified subduction.

Mid-mantle seismic anisotropy beneath southwestern Pacific subduction systems and implications for mid-mantle deformation
Observations of seismic anisotropy can offer relatively direct constraints on patterns of mantle deformation, but most studies have focused on the upper mantle. While much of the lower mantle is thought to be isotropic, several recent studies have found evidence for anisotropy in the transition zone and uppermost lower mantle (the mid-mantle), particularly in the vicinity of subducting slabs. H...
متن کاملMid-mantle anisotropy in subduction zones and deep water transport
The Earth’s transition zone has until recently been assumed to be seismically isotropic. Increasingly, however, evidence suggests that ordering of material over seismic wavelengths occurs there, but it is unclear what causes this. We use the method of source-side shear wave splitting to examine the anisotropy surrounding earthquakes deeper than 200 km in slabs around the globe. We find signific...
متن کاملMagmatic filtering of mantle compositions at mid-ocean-ridge volcanoes
Earth’s dominant form of magmatism occurs at mid-ocean ridges (MORs), producing the igneous crust for two-thirds of the planet’s surface and conveying significant heat and material fluxes from the mantle to the world’s oceans. Mid-ocean-ridge basalt (MORB) magmas form from upwelling compositionally heterogeneous mantle1 by aggregation of near-fractional melts beneath spreading centres2. Multipl...

متن کامل28 Investigating Upper Mantle Discontinuities Beneath Subduction Zones
Subduction zones can be regarded as natural laboratories because of the wide variety of processes involved. Macquarie Island is an exposed portion of the Macquarie Ridge, and is located where the Australian plate meets the Pacific plate. To its north is the Tonga trench, where the old Pacific floor subducts at a rapid rate below the Indo-Australia plate, producing a deep slab of former oceanic ...
